Seek and You Shall Find: Digging for Hidden Christian Rap Gems

How does a guy like BranNuYu end up knowing about so many different Christian rap artists—and honestly, so many different styles of Christian music in general? Christian techno, Christian emo or screamo, Christian punk rock or metal, Christian alternative or grunge, even country rap. And it doesn’t stop at music. I’ve picked up all kinds of Christian-related stuff over the years: movies, games, animation, and more

It starts with a search. In my mind, I know it probably exists somewhere. Now I just have to use tools at my disposal (search engines) to find something. My first exposure to Christian rap wasn’t something I went searching for—it just kind of found its way to me. But once it showed up, I held onto it and dug deeper. When LitaRodi came to my high school, performed, and talked with us, that moment stuck. So what did I do afterward? I went home, typed his name into Google and Myspace, and started exploring everything I could find. That simple search opened the door to a whole new world of music I didn’t even know existed yet.

Back when Myspace was still the spot, I discovered a whole world of Christian rap just by digging through LitaRodi’s top friends. That’s where I first stumbled onto Tre9, Soldiers Ona Mission, Von Won, DJ Primo (Rest In Peace), Sketch the Journalist (not an artist, but his blogs led me to even more music), Sypreme, M‑Session, TruVine, and a bunch of others. Most of them had music players on their pages, so I’d spend hours clicking around, checking out new artists, and letting the rabbit hole take me wherever it wanted.

My youth group played a big part too. That’s where I first heard Flame, Lecrae, the 116 Clique, and Cross Movement. Later, at Texas Bible Institute, I met small, unknown artists right in my dorm and heard new names blasting from speakers around campus. Discovery Camp brought in groups to perform, which opened my ears even more.

Honestly, not much has changed. I still keep my eyes open for new Christian rap wherever I go. These days it’s mostly TikTok and YouTube recommendations doing the heavy lifting, but I’m always scanning. Real life counts too—Goodwill, resale shops, pawn shops, thrift stores, garage sales, flea markets, Mardel, even Walmart. (Though Walmart usually sticks to WOW Hits or mainstream Christian compilations unless someone like Lecrae drops something big enough to hit the shelves.)

And of course, the digital hunt never stops: Facebook Marketplace, eBay, Amazon, iTunes, Spotify, SoundCloud—you name it. Sometimes you already know the artist you’re searching for. Other times you just type in “Christian Rap” or “Christian Hip Hop” and see what pops up. You can even hit X (Twitter), Instagram, or TikTok and browse hashtags like #chh, #christianrap, or #gospelrap to find new voices.

The search looks different now, but the mission’s the same: stay curious, keep digging, and let God lead you to the next artist you didn’t know you needed.

 

Christmas on Beat: Christian Rap Songs That Keep the Holiday Season Lit

Jesus Christ is the reason for the Christmas season. But many people mainly think of the commercialized hustle and bustle of shopping, decorating, putting colored lights around the house and yard, Santa and reindeer, elves, wrapped presents or gifts, Christmas trees with a star and ornaments, milk and cookies, family dinner (similar to Thanksgiving), and other festive activities. 

The Christmas/Holiday season can be fun or stressful, depending on who you ask. 

I know of several songs that I hope can be a blessing and to enjoy during the Christmas/Holiday season. Or all year if you like. 

I celebrate Jesus Christ all year round. Although in each season we tend to celebrate specific aspects of him.

Side Tangent: If Christmas or the holiday season is stressful, it doesn't have to be. It's a time where you should have peace and joy. Some people over burden themselves, but we should remember the words of Jesus Christ in Matthew 6, to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. He also comforts us with the truth that we should not worry but rather trust he will give and provide what we need.

Romans 14:17 says the kingdom of God is peace, joy, and righteousness. It's important to set healthy boundaries, and know our limits with what we can or can't do by ourselves. If it's too much a burden to decorate, put lights up, cook, and all that. Don't. Or do less than all that extra stuff. Keep things simple and basic. Feel free to have lower budget Christmas. $10 or $5 or $1-3 gifts. Free yourself, and don't make yourself a slave to pleasing other people.

We should remember the Nativity scene and remember why we even celebrate Christmas, Look and find the true meaning of Christmas, Emmanuel (God with us) who came and was born as fully God and fully man at the same time through a virgin named Mary, Jesus came with the purpose knowing that he would have to die for our sins, Christ the Messiah, the, Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. 

Salvation through Jesus Christ is a gift for all to accept. Because all have sinned, and need salvation. Regardless of if you are Jew, Muslim, Atheist, Buddhist, ect. God wants us to leave our old life of false religions and accept his son. The moment you leave your old life and turn your back on the world and sin, you will be at odds with the world, marked as an enemy, because the world wants to be comfortable staying lost in sin and blind to truth, the truth hurts, the truth convicts and doesn't feel good because it sets an ultimatum where you choose to repent and be saved or don't and stay damned. 

Christianity and Christmas is not just for those already in the "Christian religion" or being for the Christians only (God would rather you actually know him than to just play the "I go to church" game and be a "Christian" in name only... check Matthew 7:21), but for all man kind to forsake false/godless religion and idolatry, and to accept the payment Christ made for sin with his death on the cross in order for whosoever believes in him to be saved, born again, and have a transformed spirit that is no longer dead but alive in Christ as a new creation. 

God wants a relationship with us, where his Holy Spirit indwells us, not where he's some distant deity, he isn't the universe itself. He's the creator of the universe. New Agers tend to see the universe as God. That is Pantheism and collective consciousness (Some call it Christ Consciousness), they believe in manifesting things into existence, speak it to be, name it and claim it, law of attraction, (basically stuff from the book called The Secret). God is not a genie. We don't manipulate him to get what we want. We pray and ask, and it can be yes, no, or wait. He is God and we are not. He is Lord. And God the Father knows best.

Luke Nyne (formerly Three J): A New Era of Christian Rap

It was years back when I was helping my neighbor and a group of Latinas her age, including herself with making afew Rap Music Videos for a High School project that involved using beats of popular secular artists and rappers/singers of the time (I think early 2010's, I was in my 20's) and making like cover/remix songs about words like Alliteration or Hyperbole, basically literary devices or figures of speech used in like an English, Literature, Writing, or Grammar class, when I stumbled upon the Christian Rappers Three J and Puntin. I think I was doing online searches for Christian Rap artists that I already knew of like Harmony Hi-See. I  was on YouTube and Spotify while I was upstairs in the house, where the girls were doing a majority of the videos. It was when there was down time and I guess they were practicing their lines or something. 

Upon hearing Three J and Puntin songs and albums (I was looking into both artists as well as others, basically featured artists), I got some of their music on iTunes because I love buying the music to support the artist, and so that the songs are saved permanently to my library. I remember liking that they had that H-Town and Texas style. I was thinking the same thing I was always thinking when I discovered new Christian Rap "How is this not more popular? It needs to be!". 

Side Tangent: I had already began my mission since around 2008/2009 (after I graduated High School) to discover Christian Rap and to share it to my peers in hopes that it may become popular, or at least more known about. After years of sharing Christian Rap, I really have no way of knowing what my influence has been to help CHH (Christian Hip Hop) and Christian Rap to gain new fans/followers. I hope I have been more of a help than a hinderance. The reason I say that, is because I'm a white guy, kinda quirky, so while I try to promote something like Christian Rap, I feel like I may just might make it look weird or something and reinforce the whole "Christian Rap Is Corny" stigma. But I guess it just depends on who you talk to. I may have brought some positive awareness to the genre and to the fact Christian Rap exists, regardless of whether I look the part or not. Maybe some say "Look at that goofball.", others might say "I gotta check this stuff out, it actually sounds good.". And thanks to Lecrae, Andy Mineo, NF, Hulvey, and Forrest Frank, plus several other Christian artists that have had themself (or their creative works) break into the mainstream spotlight, Christian Rap has become more known, accepted, and part of many more families. Maybe not all households everywhere. There's some people who still wouldn't know who Lecrae is if you asked them. But that's a hit or miss. And just because something is famous or popular, doesn't mean absolutely everyone knows who they are. So Christian Rap has made it in my opinion, or at least got through the door to just get started in getting even further. We had a whole group of Christian Rappers get on Sway's Universe! DJ Mykael V, DJ Wade O, and others.

I'm not sure what to even say, except I love Luke Nyne new song "No Other Way". And then another one that has been out, but he's been promoting recently, it's called "Born Ready".

 Looking back at Luke Nyne, back when he was called Three J, I loved that he had the Third Coast, Southern, Texas, H-Town style. I was wanting to find more Christian Rap that had Screwed Up Click style since it's popular in Houston Texas, or in Texas in general, Houston Texas rap people like the slow down, chop and screw sounds. So I liked songs like Da South ft Puntin. I like the Walk On Water song ft Harmony Hi-See, he basically sounds like Bone Thugs And Harmony with the fast rap but like T-Pain with the autotune. I loved his melodic singing vocals. I wish Harmony Hi-See still did Christian Rap. Three J's Thrice Album was probably my favorite. But I loved singles from his prior albums.

Discovering New Christian Hip Hop: The Tre9 Songs I Somehow Missed

For years, dating back to about 2008 or 2009, I have been a fan of Tre9 and his label Much Luvv Records. 

Here in December 2025 I am coming across songs featuring Tre9 that I didn't even know existed. 

I was just checking iTunes to see if he dropped any features that I may have missed. Well he's had songs dating back to 2002, as well as newer songs that I have not heard till now. 

If you don't know anything about Tre9, keep reading, (and clicking). I'll let you know who he is here in this blog post.

Tre9 has been a big part of Christian Rap and Hip Hop, especially in Houston Texas. He was the co-owner of the now defunct website: DaSouth.com back in the late 2000's (It was like the website to go to for Christian Rap before Rapzilla.com went big). I remember besides finding a bunch of my favorite artists on Myspace through Top Friends of LitaRodi, I would hit up Lifeway Christian Store (I got Flame Our World Redeemed and Mr Del Hope Dealer albums there), as well as DaSouth.com I likely found the site through Tre9, I found Tre9 through LitaRodi, I found LitaRodi locally through both his performance at schools plus he was briefly at a church I attended after High School. Tre9 is the founder of Eyes On Me Inc as well as Disciple The Streets and Hip Hop Hope. Tre9 is also the founder of Much Luvv Records. Tre9 also recently started a podcast called Somethin' Ain't Right. One of his co-hosts WiteOut is from another podcast called Letz Chop It Up.
